AL was invited by the Swedish Sámi organization SSR to moderate the policy dialogue with Swedish parliamentarians on reindeer husbandry policy and futures at the SSR annual conference in Stockholm (2018).
AL appointed experts and advisors to an OECD report on “Linking the Indigenous Sámi with regional development in Sweden. It included a formal hearing at the Ministry of Enterprise and Innovation together with government and Sámi representatives, as well as providing input and advice during the report writing. https://www.oecd.org/development/linking-the-indigenous-Sámi-people-with-regional-development-in-sweden-9789264310544-en.htm
AL also consulted the EJF team in the development phase of the production (e.g. informing about and sensitizing filming activities to reindeer herding conditions) and in commenting on the written report of the project “Rights at risk: Arctic Climate Change and the and the threat to Sami culture”: https://ejfoundation.org//resources/downloads/EJF-Sami-briefing-2019-final-1.pdf | |
AL acted as moderator at the publicly open Research/Film festival Crosscuts, organized by KTH and REXSAC, at the session on “Arktis, gruvdrift, samisk historia och kultur” (The Arctic, mining, Sami history and culture) where both researchers and other Sami representatives and stakeholders participated. |
AL has advised to develop the Sámi parliaments ethical guidelines and recommendations for Sámi related research in Sweden
AL was invited as speaker to the European parliament and the European Polar Science Week on the topic of dilemmas in biodiversity management and reindeer herding practices. The report feeds into a number of key policy processes at the EU level, such as formulating a new Arctic strategy, Horizon programme and the New Green Deal. AL, contributing authors to the upcoming IPCC-report where for the first time reindeer herding is considered as a separate case study. https://www.ipcc.ch/report/sixth-assessment-report-working-group-ii/ .
AL was selected as expert in the parliamentary committee (2021-2025). The committee is assigned to formulate a proposal for a new reindeer herding legislation in Sweden. https://www.riksdagen.se/sv/dokument-lagar/dokument/kommitteberattelse/renmarkskommitten-n-202102_H9B2N02
Several Finnish participants (AJP, JK, SR) have provided collaboratively produced knowledge basis as input to the process of establishing recommendations for new reindeer numbers in Finland
Several participants have been called as expert in Court cases, e.g. Fosen, (Frostating lagmanssrett , June 2010) (AS), in Gabrielsberget Nord (Umeå Tingsrett, Sept, 2016) (ØH)
KR and ØH have contributed to an expert panel to evaluate criteria for a sustainable wild reindeer herd management in Norway. Miljøkvalitetsnorm for villrein. NINA Report. https://nina.no. KR is further engaged in the following up expert group and actively involved in a CWD expert committee.
SR is appointed member a working group lead by Ministry of Forestry and Agriculture in Finland, on the future of reindeer husbandry. She is also involved in the ongoing CAFF-AMAP work.
