Reindeer herding is not only an industry, but a complex activity related to indigenous rights, identities and histories. This places specific demands on state-Sámi relations and institutional analysis and requires contextualization against recognized Indigenous rights, specifically participatory rights in decision-making about natural resources.
Main Objective – To compare, contrast, assess and evaluate the governing systems of reindeer husbandry in the Nordic countries in order to promote governance structures and practices that contribute to increased problem-solving capacity.
